EDUCATION POLICY ANALYSIS & STRATEGIC PLANNING
“Strategy is about getting more out of a situation than the starting balance of power would suggest. It is the art of creating power.” — Sir Lawrence Freedman
Good policy makes good teaching and learning possible. Good policy plus good planning enables transformative learning. I work with school, district and state level administrators to provide customized strategic planning to meet their educational goals. Informed by cutting edge policy research, I work collaboratively with clients to design a Strategic Plan tailored to your goals and your communities. I have worked with over 50 schools in 15 districts and four countries, always beginning with the district’s or school’s mission, and then integrating relevant policies into a single, coherent approach that remains consistent to the school’s culture and “creates power” for children to learn and thrive.

EDUCATION PROGRAM DESIGN & EVALUATION
Design and evaluation are not separate steps in the program process. A good program is built around its goals and is only as good as its ability to measure its progress toward them.
I work with non-profit organizations, foundations, international aid agencies, and corporations to design innovative, strategically aligned programs that monitor and assess for success all along the way. With over twenty years of experience in curriculum planning, project management and program evaluation, I work with all my clients using backwards planning and systems thinking to design rigorous and effective programs–to create power!-while crafting robust mixed-method mechanisms to monitor and evaluate their impact.

K-12 TEACHER & LEADER EFFECTIVENESS
Learning is the new skill. Imagination, creation and asking new questions are at its core. —Sugata Mitra
I work with state, district and school administrators and classroom teachers to make sure systems are set up — and teachers have the support they need — so that children get what they need to thrive in the 21st Century, and have fun in the process! I’ve been in the mix as the teaching & learning landscape has changed in the last two decades and have a unique awareness of the new learning needs, the diversity of teaching contexts and the best practices to provide children and young people with powerful learning experiences.

EDUCATING FOR SUSTAINABILITY
Our goal is a delightfully diverse, safe, healthy, and just world, with clean air, water, soil, and power – economically, ecologically, and elegantly enjoyed. — William McDonough, TED 2005
Sustainability is embedded in all of my work. To me, return on investment means that all of my work, regardless of scope, is tailored to my clients’ present needs while creating a foundation for success long into the future. I use a place-based, strategic approach that examines the goals at hand within the context of the full wealth and interdependence of the social, economic and environmental resources available to achieve them.

COACHING
“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive and then go do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” — Dr. Howard Thurman
About one in three people in the current work force are considered free-lance, contractors or contingent workers. Estimates suggest that, by 2020, that number will rise to one half of the workforce. This trend changes the way we think about employment, employers and what it means to be a worker in the new economy—and creates an opportunity to draft more personal definitions of success. Redefining this mutually beneficial relationship places means that individuals will have to re-tool themselves not only to manage this change but to make it work for them.

RESEARCH
“The key to good decision making is not knowledge. It is understanding.” — Malcolm Gladwell
I provide individuals and organizations with external research support in order to inform their decision-making and align resource allocation to their goals. Blending primary and secondary research, I help my clients gain understanding about their own clients and how best to serve them. As a precursor to visioning and program design, or as a stand-alone service, I blend my strong research capacity and outside-the-box thinking to meet a variety of client needs.
